Our guests are BLACK*SCARR
June 26th

Johnny & Emma have been regular guests at Watford since our early days and it always a pleasure to have them play for us, so we are really looking forward to welcoming the band for the first time.

BLACK*SCARR are Johnny Black and Emma Scarr and now with the addition of electric guitar, bass and drums it is in fact The Black*Scarr Band! Formed by East London duo Emma Scarr & Johnny Black, whose differing writing styles and influences have collided to produce a rather lovely marriage of dreamy realism. Black*Scarr perform an honest, gritty, urban folk style with narrative driven tunes that are classic but yet utterly modern in their everyday relevance. For this Session they will be accompanied by Steve Bottcher (electric guitar/dobro/mandolin), Brad Wray (electric bass) and Pete Abernethy (snare/percussion). Prepare to tap your toes to upbeat melodic tunes and be touched by hard-hitting, yet poetic lyrics that will stay with you. Quite simply, “One of the best acts around by a country mile!”

BlackScarr have become known for live performances bursting with energy and chemistry. Prepare to tap your toes to upbeat melodic country tunes and be touched by hard-hitting, yet poetic lyrics that will stay with you. Guitar, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica and classic harmonies document the trials, contradictions, fears and delights of middle-aged life and love.

Black*Scarr won “Best Audience Reaction” award at “Love Folk Live” competition run by Folkstock and have been finalist and winner for the Watford Folk Club Song Writing Competition.

“Black*Scarr versifies urban life better than most bands I have ever come across. They sing about the world through the domestic prism. Love, loss, the night, need, city dreams and desires. All expressed through their irony, wit and vocal harmonies. Together Johnny Black and Emma Scarr conjure beauty in its most raw sense. Check them out.”
