The Polly Morris Band ~ March 4th

Polly Morris leads the musical comedy band that performs laugh-out-loud funny songs and also heartbreakingly poignant songs.

The band is well known for its tight harmonies, beautiful arrangements and moments to make you smile. Polly Morris is joined by Mandy Stansfield, Kate Hunter and Brian Harries for performances of originality, great music and surprising moments. Their audience interaction and flexibility to mould the performance to those who are there have lead to sell-out shows across the south. It’s always a pleasure to have Polly & the gang play for us, and it will be a night not to be missed.

Please Note:  Entry is by suggested donation of £12 (cash or card)

Petrichor cancelled ~ February 18th

Petrichor – concert cancelled

It seems that the weather forecasts for tonight are becoming more and more concerning, with very high winds and the possibilities of trees falling and flying debris.

We need to consider everyone’s safety and so our committee have decided the best course of action is to cancel Bob and Annette’s gig and reschedule.

We’ll announce the new date on FaceBook and our website.

It’s a real disappointment but hope that you understand.

We look forward to seeing you on the 25th for one of our regular singarounds.

Until then, take care and stay safe.

Winter Wilson ~ February 4th

We are pleased to welcome Winter Wilson to our club on Friday February 4th.

Now in their 9th year as full-time musicians, Kip Winter and Dave Wilson bring a sense of intimacy to every venue, blending superb, often hard-hitting original songs, stunning harmonies and musicianship with sometimes hilarious humour and tales of life on the road. Kip (vocals, accordion, guitar, flute) “simply has a voice to die for” (John Roffey, Maverick Magazine), whilst Dave (vocals, guitar and banjo) is now rightly recognized as being amongst the top tier of British songwriters, with his songs sung in folk clubs across the UK and beyond. Together, their voices are sublime.

Please Note:  Entry is by suggested donation of £15 £12 (cash or card)

Spotlight Singaround with
Matt Davis – 28th January

Matt is a fairly new member of the club, but he has firmly established himself as one of our favourite performers.

Here is a little bit more about him:

Matt is a folk singer-songwriter based in St Albans. When not looking after his two young children, Matt enjoys arranging traditional songs for guitar using a variety of tunings. He grew up listening, thanks to his parents, to the likes of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Judy Collins, and his current influences include Kate Rusby and Martin Simpson. Occasionally writing his own songs, Matt was a finalist in Watford Folk Club’s 2021 Song Competition with the song “Trains & Boats & Planes”. You can find out more about him here: https://matt-davis-guitar.com/

He will play two 20-minute sets at the end of 1st & 2nd singaround sessions.

Sam Brothers ~ January 14th

In light of the rule changes on face coverings announced yesterday, the Management Committee have instructed that
face coverings must be worn when attending any event or performance on-site at the Pump House.
Sam Brothers is a 26-year-old singer-songwriter and performer, based in Canterbury, in the South of England. Although he is rooted in the raw traditions of the travelling Troubadour – he reflects the ever-changing world we live in through the wide eyes of his generation. With the face of an innocent, the voice of a fallen angel and with a deep knowledge far beyond his years, he offers a genuine and meaningful alternative to the pre-packaged, over-processed, trivia-twittering wannabees that dominate the airwaves and flood our screens.

Sam is a massive talent – a remarkable guitarist and unique song-writer, blessed with an astonishing voice that recalls the gentle sensitivity of Nick Drake, but underscored by the screaming power and swooping range of Jeff Buckley……. And with something more, an honesty and intensity that is purely Sam Brothers. His songs reflect the truths that his single-minded lifestyle and tough choices have delivered. Rooted in the raw passion of the early protest singers and touching on the beauty of the first wave of folksters – Sam’s songs are invested with echoes of Dylan, Buckley, Drake, Van Zandt, and all the stops along the long, old, lonely road that those illustrious names illuminate.

Sam truly has something to say, a unique way to say it and a collection of people who believe in him and will support him in the process. He is already a great performer and a star in the making, but a new kind of star, who has a message to deliver and the tools to deliver that message.

For a while now, Sam has been busy paying his dues and earning his spurs, in the old-school way, making just enough to live on and give him the time to write and create his first record and keep repairing the rustiest, old Ford Mondeo in the country!

Samuel Brothers is an artist for an emerging generation, who won’t settle for less than the truth and who are disillusioned with the trivia and inherent futility of the virtual world. This is a new generation artist for a new-generation audience, but rooted in old school values.

If you love music – you will love Sam Brothers
