Recommended donation – £10:00

Linde and Bert first contacted us in 2019 and having heard their music, we immediately offered them a booking in 2020. Unfortunately, Covid raised its ugly head and we had to postpone not once, but three times! We’re delighted to confirm that they will be with us on June 2nd!

Linde is often called ‘best folk singer of the Netherlands’ (Heaven magazine). In the UK she’s perhaps best known for her sincere renditions of Sandy Denny’s song material. Her album “Sings Sandy Denny” was well received. Joe Boyd (producer of Nick Drake, Fairport Convention etc.) said “Linde Nijland has given Sandy Denny’s music the respect it deserves and has made a lovely and fresh record that shows off her beautiful voice as well as her good taste”. In 2009 he invited her to sing as part of an All-Star Fairport reunion concert in the Barbican Hall (together with Richard Thompson). She has also sung with Fairport Convention on other occasions and was interviewed for the Bob Harris radio documentary “Who Knows Where the Time Goes” for BBC2.

Linde started out as a part of Dutch female harmony singing duo Ygdrassil. Besides this Linde has been performing and recording for many years with multi-instrumentalist Bert Ridderbos (“Seemingly a one-man orchestra” fRoots) on guitars, cittern, accordion, banjo and dobro. They also made a musical friendship journey over land to Bhutan (through Balkan and eastern countries, like Serbia, Iran, India). More recently Linde’s brand-new album ‘Ten Years’ – with mostly self-penned songs – was released and nominated for the esteemed German award ‘Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik’.

Live, Linde and Bert create a unique atmosphere. They perform Linde’s own songs, as well as Sandy Denny songs and traditional material. A capella songs are mixed with ballads, instrumental tunes and up-tempo sing-alongs.

During their evening with us, they will play their own and traditional material in the first half, while the second half will be Linde’s brilliant renditions of Sandy Denny’s songs.

“I got intrigued about the different versions of this song (Who knows where the time goes) – I think my favourite comes from the artist Linde Nijland” Tom Robinson (BBC6)

“Holland’s sensational Folk-Duo” Cornwall Folk Festival
