New Roots Night. £12.50(Cash or Card)
An evening featuring New Roots Finalists Amy Gill, Sean Spicer & A Sailor Among Tailors. Do come and give them your support and encourage these young performers as they start out on their musical journeys into the Folk World..

Described as ‘a leading light of the Oxford folk scene’, Amy Gill is a traditional singer and flute player focussing particularly on the songs and Morris tunes of the Cotswolds. She sings for the most part unaccompanied, occasionally intertwining flute and voice to create lively arrangements. Amy uses old songs to tell enduring stories, of land and of loss, and of a better world to come. A keen dancer and ceilidh caller, she also plays for both Morris and social dancing and was a 2024 New Roots finalist.

Sean Spicer is a harmonicist, whistler and flautist from Bristol, performing largely in the English and Irish traditions. Sean specifically aims through his performance to explore and propagate the English harmonica tradition and is recognised as a modern-day proponent of traditional English harmonica in Roger Trobridge’s online archive. Sean is a National Youth Folk Ensemble alumnus (and to date their only harmonicist) and was a Comhaltas All-Britain champion and All-Ireland finalist in the mouth organ and miscellaneous categories, and a National Youth Harmonica champion.

A Sailor Among Tailors are a folk collective based in Leeds and London. The band is made up of Rowan (Guitar, Bass & Vocals) and Perseus (Harmonica & Piano). The band play traditional folk tunes from the 16th Century to the modern era as well as folk songs. Rowan met Perseus whilst performing at New Roots 2023, they reconnected at Sidmouth Folk Week where they both also performed. Rowan is a current Leeds Conservatoire student on the Popular Music Course whilst Perseus graduated from the Fold Course there in 2024. Rowan and Perseus have been performing up and down the country for a few years playing at a number of major folk festivals. They have also had a few performances as a duo in the West Yorkshire area as well as performing together at New Roots 2024, Chippenham Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Week and Ottley Folk Festival (all three in 2024).
